Professional Self-Publishing

What’s my goal when helping a nonfiction author independently publish their book?

It’s 100% this:

To help you publish a book that’s as indistinguishable as possible from a traditionally published book.

I’ll admit: I have a bias toward independent publishing. It’s how I published both of my books.

You can publish independently and do it well – so well that your book is nearly indistinguishable from a traditionally-published book.

You may have noticed that I’m not using the term “self-publishing” here. That’s intentional, and it’s for two reasons:

  1. There’s nothing “self” about it. The best authors who publish independently hire a team of experts, including editors, cover designers, interior layout people, and more, to ensure their book is published professionally.

  2. Doesn’t “indie author” sound so much cooler than “self-published author?” I mean, indie filmmaker and indie musicians are cool, right? So are indie authors!

If indie (“self”) publishing sounds overwhelming, don’t worry. I’ve got you.

I dive into all this, and more, in my free 6-part “crash course” for nonfiction authors.

“Jenny Lisk is a rare publishing talent, combining incredible creativity with a process-driven mind to tackle any challenge. I met Jenny as her editor and was beyond impressed by her near-obsession with each scene and word — ultimately earning her numerous writing awards and bestseller recognition for her book. Now, I readily refer any author to Jenny if they want to launch their book the right way. Jenny is a phenom at tapping into every resource for optimizing a book platform — from Amazon/Ingram launch to layout to publicity, and everything in between. She’s also a constant student of the latest technology tools needed by indie authors to compete with big publishing houses. In every way, her project management, publishing, and marketing skills surpass that of nearly any traditional publisher. Just as important, she shows tremendous passion and compassion for each book and author she represents. If you plan to self-publish, you cannot afford not to work with Jenny. She will treat your book like it is her own—letting you reap all the rewards.

“As a first-time author, I needed a lot of information, and someone I could trust to guide me through the process of publishing a high-quality book. Jenny Lisk was most definitely that person. From the early editing and design stages to the creative and technical strategies of a full book launch, including distribution and marketing, she supported me through it all. This is a process with a lot of moving parts and it needs to be coordinated in a synchronistic manner so that all the pieces come together cohesively to create a professionally produced book. Jenny offers her own experience as an author and project manager along with a wealth of knowledge and industry resources she has developed over the past few years. She leaves no stones unturned, her attention to detail is impeccable. The relationships Jenny has developed with highly skilled editors, designers, and others in the independent publishing industry, as well as the media, demonstrate her ability to work across many disciplines. She is both pragmatic yet kind, focused, yet flexible, and on top of all that, Jenny is one of the nicest people you will ever get to work with.”

“As a first time author, it's difficult to identify everything that needs to get done in the publishing process. Jenny helped me navigate everything from beginning to end and made the journey incredibly smooth. From finding an editor and an artist for the front cover, to uploading the book on Amazon and publishing my book in two languages, Jenny facilitated everything and made my job easy with her incredible attention to detail!”
